Description of the Flag

The flag of Sutherland Shire (in Southern Sydney, south of the Georges River), consists of a St George's Cross. At the centre, on a blue disc surrounded by a wreath, is a white globe between two yellow six pointed stars (above and below). The flag is similar to Capt. James Cook's arms (which can also be found in the middle of the top third of the flag of Sydney City Council), although the globe is different, simply a white outline of a sphere with lines of latitude and longitude.

Observed:

  • Citizenship Ceremony, Sutherland Town Hall, 26 Jan 1999.
  • with Sutherland marching band, Anzac Day March, Sydney, 25 Apr 2001.
Jonathan Dixon, 3 May 2001
