Description of the flag

Beernem (14,000 inhabitants) is located in the arrondissement of Bruges.

The flag is: Azure, three (2:1) bears passant Or. Proportions are 2:3.
The flag is derived from the bottom of the municipal arms, which appears to be based on the wrong popular etymology of the municipality name (beer, bear); the official version is: birnu (marsh), ham (enclosed area).

The flag was adopted on 7 October 1985.
