Description of the flag

Ostende (70,000 inhabitants) is the capital city of the arrondissement of Ostende.

The flag is horizontally divided red and yellow.

The flag was adopted on 2 September 1985. That flag has been used known since at least the 17th century. Wilson's "Flags at Sea" [wil86] has a wimpel for Ostend, and an Ostend Fighting flag (p.68, flagchart of William Downman, 1685-86), and on p.69 an Ostend Ensign.
