Description of the flag

This is a “reconstructed” image based on description from [cra90b] «Blue with a white wavy stripe surmounted by the letter K and two stars, all yellow.» Possibly that in the view of recent developement in Congo/Zaire, the flag was changed. On the other hand, it might be not, it looks like it is based on the reintroduced Congo flag.
Zeljko Heimer, 22 Jul 1997

The previous flags included an "L" (Leopoldville) and not a "K".

Variant flag

Flag of Kinshasa by Robert Lloyd Wheelock, 18 Feb 2001

A variant for the municipal flag for the capital city of Kinshasa. It was originally spelled 'Kinchassa' on an 1800s Belgian Congo (French language) map (along with a neighboring village, Kintamo). It was originally named Léopoldville, to honor Belgium's then-ruling King Léopold II, who colonized The Congo.
I've seen the flag for Kinshasa designed *2* ways:
(1) with the stars on sides of an initial K, or
(2) with the initial K positioned near hoist, with the stars arranged vertically to its right [which was the way I saw it years ago in a late 1960s flag book at a library in Wiscasset, ME USA].
NOTE: The white wave design & the yellow stars on current flags are of simple design. Those on the 2 earlier (1925, 1960) designs were different looking (as well as a altogether different [fancier looking] initial letter).
