Description

According to the Manual del Estado Español (Handbook of the Spanish State, Spanish text only) by Editorial Lama:

  • historical flag [meaning there is no known adoption date], "De color morado oscuro con el Escudo Provincial, cuyo eje se colocará a una distancia de la vaina de un tercio de la bandera" i.e. dark violet with the provincial coat-of-arms at a distance from the hoist equal to one third of the length of the flag;
  • historical coat-of-arms [meaning there is no known adoption date], León rampante rojo en campo de plata, rodeado de una orla de castillos de oro en campo rojo, alternando con leones rojos en campo de plata, cuyo número no era fijo, con corona real de ocho florones.

Pascal Vagnat, 16 July 1999

The original text specifies that the [vertical] axis of the coat-of-arms is set one third of the flag's width off from the hoist.

António Martins, 16 July 1999

The flag is apparently very similar to that of Córdoba City but with a purple instead of red field (plus perhaps a closed instead of open royal crown).

Santiago Dotor, 26 October 2000
