Description of the flag

Yellow stylized Katakana character of Mi of Miyazaki on light green field. The emblem is shaped like a step symbolizing progress of Miyazaki. Yellow stands for the sun. Adopted 1964-12-22.

Nozomi Kariyasu - 1998-05-06

Green flag with yellow slanted rectangles (parallellograms?) reminding of ZZ Top sign. 5:7

This flag is in Smith 1980 marked as state flag on land.

Zeljko Heimer - 1996-12-08

The "kanji" or chinese character pronounced "Mi" consists of three equal length horozontal strokes, one over the other. Here, they are offset and given enouth breadth that they have a pleasing appearance. By the way, the green of the background is "midori", also with the same first character.

Prefectural flag

The green and yellow colors represent the prefecture's abundant greenery and sunshine. The three horizontal strokes represent the katakana syllable "mi" the first syllable of Miyazaki. They also resemble a staircase, symbolizing progress.
