About the flag

Berlevåg municipality is situated in Finnmark county

Berlevåg's flag was approved by Royal resolution dated 22 July 1988. It is a simple, yet effective, flag, made by a simple flame like partition of the field in yellow over blue. I believe the heraldic term for this kind of partition is rayonné. Berlevåg is a coastal community that depends on the sea in so many ways. According to [nss91], the idea is to symbolize the waves that break against the shore, which can represent both the struggle against the sea as well as the dependence on it.
