On 25 Jun 2002 the council of the Lodz voivodeship passed a resolution  (no. XLIV/514/2002) in respect of the arms, flag, seal and other insignia of the voivodship. The proposed arms and flag for the voivodeship were approved by the Heraldic Commission of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration. The designer of the arms, flag and other insignia is Dr Marek Adamczewski, an employee of the Historical Institute of the University of Lodz.
