The flag of the "33 Orientales" (eastern 33) is [in horizontal stripes of] blue, white and red with the motto "Libertad o Muerte" ("Freedom or Death") on the center in black.

History of the flag

Lavalleja took the flag, which waving upon the wind shown its three horizontal bands sky-blue [celeste], white and deep scarlet red [punzó] with its motto in the middle one of "LIBERTY OR DEATH" and with moving voice, the future hero of Sarandí said these words: «To win or die, comrades». Raising the swords all swered to free the motherland from those who were enslaving her.
