Overview

This city of 39,147 inhabitants was founded on May 21, 1819 (although its origins go back to 1725). The design, colours and symbolism come from the CoA: the yellow symbolizes the Tano Indians who lived in Isabela and are known for the characteristic use of gold in decorations. The green symbolizes the most ancient known inhabitants of Isabela, archaic Indians and ingers [mixed?], the latter probably being the first agriculturers in the island, hence the green colour.

The flag at pueblos-de-puertorico.com site (defunct) is a horizontal triband yellow - green - yellow. According to lexjuris site the flag can also be exhibited with the CoA in the middle. Isabela is in northwest Puerto Rico.
