It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms
centered on a background quarterly (meaning town
rank) of red and yellow. The coat of arms is argent on a fess sable
three ears of wheath, in dexter chief a templar
cross, in sinister chief a Christ Knights Order
cross, in point a wavy fess azure. Mural crown argent with four visible
towers (town rank) and white scroll reading
in black upper case letters "VILA DE FERREIRA DO ZZERE".

"Ferreira" relates to a blacksmith or to his shop (not refered on
the coat of arms), "do" means "of the", and "Zzere" is the
name of a river (largest tributary of the Tagus on portuguese territory),
depicted on the coat of arms by a wavy fess. The other charges refer to the
local importance of wheat (?) and to the Orders Templar
and of Christs Knights.
