About the flag
The county is situated in north Sm�land and has gotten its name from the county capital, J�nk�ping. The flag is a banner of the arms, and consists of the arms of J�nk�ping and above this a chief with the three yellow crowns on blue from the Swedish state arms. The arms were granted on 12 June 1942, based on earlier use of arms (not granted) where the upper blue field took up half the shield and with the crowns placed two above one - the new design was considered more appealing.

Official blazon in Swedish: "I r�tt f�lt en fr�n en av en v�gskura bildad bl� stam uppskjutande krenelerad borg av silver med tre krenelerade torn, det mellersta h�gst, svarta f�nster, d�rrar och port samt upphissat portgaller av silver och d�r�ver en med tre bj�lkvis ordnade kronor av guld belagd bl� ginstam."Blazoned in English: "Gules, a Castle with three towers Argent massoned windowed and gated Sable issuant from a Base wavy Azure and on a Chief of the last three Crowns Or in fess."
