Description of the flag

The flag and arms of Celje are prescribed in the temporary municipal statutes Statutarni sklep Mestne obcine Celje, adopted on 5 January 1995, as follows:

Article 3.

[...]

Until the adoption of the Statute there shall remain in use:

- the current coat of arms of the city of Celje,

- the current flag of the city of Celje.

Article 48 refers to the previous statutes of 1982 (Uradni list 6/82, 19 February 1982, amended 23/90, 37/90 and 23/91)

The definitive municipal statutes Statut Mestne obcine Celje, adopted on 5 June 1995 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, nr. 41, says:

Article 6.

The coat of arms is of late Ghotic shape, rounded at the base. In a blue field there are three conic sixpointed golden stars, two and one.
The flag is yellow - blue, with the coat of arms in the middle. Ratio width to length is 1:2. The colours are set horizontally, each taking up the half of the width. Yellow is above. The middle-point of the coat of arms is in the crossing-point of the diagonals. The upper half of the coat of arms is in the yellow field and lower helf in the blue field.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms is a blue shield with three yellow six-pointed stars two over one (azure, three mullets or). This is the coat of arms of the counts of Celje, and origin of the three stars on the state coat of arms.
