Biligirirangana

It is
120 kms from Mysore, 247 kms. from Bangalore and 30 kms. from K.
Gudi. The Biligirirangana range of hills is picturesquely suited
between the Cauvery and the Tungabhadra rivers. At a height of 5,091
ft. above sea level, this hill stretches from north to south for
about 16 kms. All around are deciduous trees. And roaming amidst
the long grass and tall trees are animals. It is a welcome place
for those who want to have a 'cool' time with a little bit of 'wild'
excitement.
Wake
up to the chirping of birds and the humming of bees. Breathe in
fresh, clean air. Take a stroll through the sylvan surroundings.
As the day slips quietly into night, watch the stars come out, one
by one. The moon casts a silver light. It enjoys cool and salubrious
climate around the year The best time to visit this place would
be from November to March. Language Spoken here are Kannada, Hindi
and English. The Ratha Festival at Biligirirangana Betta is held
during 'Vaishakha' in the month of April. Once in 2 years the local
tribes make an offering of a large pair of slippers measuring one
foot and nine inches, made out of skin, to the deity.

There are regular buses from Bangalore, Chamarajanagar and Yelandur
to Biligirirangana Betta.

What
to see:
Biligirirangaswami
Temple:
Situated
on top of the highest peak, this ancient temple gives Biligirirangana
Betta its name. The deity in the temple is Venkatesha, popular as
ranganatha. There is also the Biligirirangaswami Temple
Sanctuary spread across 450 sq kms. This sanctuary is home to
gaur, chital, sambar, elephants, tigers, panthers and bears.
Kanchikote:
These are the ruins of an old fort stated to have bean
built by the Gangaraja of Shivanasamudra.
Himvad Gopalaswamy
Hills: Is
in Mysore District and is situated in the verdant Western Ghats.
The hills are a trekker's delight and a popular holiday resort too.
Situated atop the Hill is the Gopalaswamy Temple.
