PILGRIMAGES - ANANDPUR SAHIB

This town is also known as `The city of divine bliss' and is located at the foot of the Shiwaliks on the east bank of the river Sutlej. Anandpur Sahib was established by the 9th Guru of Sikhs , Tegh Bahadur, in 1644, when the Sikhs were forced into foothills of Himalayas by increasing Mughal opposition. Guru Tegh Bahadur's severed head was brought here from Delhi for cremation. Later on, Anandpur went to become both a fortress and a school of Sikh learning.
