Lying
15 km from Mathura and noted for its numerous temples, is Vrindavan
where Lord Krishna spent an eventful youth. The name 'Vrindavan'
refers to scented groves and forests. The place is connected to
Mathura and all other places of interest in Braj by rail and bus
services.
Some important temples
in Vrindavan are located near the Kali Ghat which was built by Kapur
Ram Das of Multan. This is the oldest existent temple in the town
today. The temple is closely associated with saint Chaitanya. The
city of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh is the birth place of Lord Krishna
and is an important pilgrimage centre. Mathura is the nucleus of
Brajbhoomi. The city stretches along the right bank of the river
Yamuna and abounds in temples and shrines. The area of Mathura district
is 3,780 sqkm. It is situated at an altitude of 187 m.

Maximum temperature during
summer shoots up to 45 degree Celsius and minimum upto 22 degree,
while in winters maximum temperature can rise to 32 degree and minimum
can dip to 14 degree. It receives an annual rainfall of 65 cms from
June to September. One must carry cottons for summer and light woollens
for winters.
