     Agriculture remains the primary occupation of a majority of the population, the state boasts some of the most significant industrial growth in post independence India. Karnataka is as well known for its silk and sandalwood as for its high tech industry. Bangalore, among the fastest growing cities in Asia is home to many industries.

     The state is rich in mineral ore, and supplies all of India's gold. Other ores mined in the state include iron, chromite, magnesite, mica, copper, etc. The Sharavati, Kali, and the Cauvery rivers have been harnessed for electric power. The major cities are Bangalore, Mysore, Hubli-Dharwad, Mangalore, and Belgaum.

Incentatives
*Invesment subsidy of 15 to 25 percent (Rs. 1.5 to 2.5 million) in selected areas.
*Subsidy of rupees 0.5 million for installation of pollution control equipment.
*Sales Tax exemption upto 6 years for electronics in Mysore and Dharwad.
*Investment subsidy of 10% of fixed assets for 100% export-oriented units (maximum Rs. 1 millin) in selected areas.
