Chennai
The stalls cluttering the footpaths on Mount Road and around Parry's Corner
(popularly called Burma Bazaar) offer cheap "export reject" clothes; watches
and electronic goods are also available here. For conventional souverirs,
visit the craft shops and the various government emporia along Mount Road.

Madurai
The handicrafts Emporiums of the states are also situated here which offer
handicrafts from all over the India. Popular among the clothes are cotton
fabrics, Batik and Sungundi Sarees - all forming the Indian nari's favourites.
The best outlet for cotton is the Puthu Mandapam, an old pillared hall
along the entrance to Meenakshi temple.[more]
Chidambaram
There are a number of shops in the Car Street around the temple and also
many curios can be purchased from Khadi Craft.
Mamallapuram
Mamallapuram is a place where one can shop for beautifully carved images
of Hindu Gods in soft stone or wood. Decorative articles made from sea
shells are widely available here. There are some Kashmiri shops selling
Hammocks here. There is even a Himalayan Handicraft emporium here which
offers some good handicraft items from the Himalayan states. The Government
run Poompuhar has a branch in Mamallapuram and they sell a variety of

Kanyakumari
The markets are full of small shops where one can purchase local items.
The Tamil Nadu Co-optex sales emporium, Indco products, Tamil Nadu crafts
and Pumphuar are some of the shops where one can get to buy handicraft
items, souvenir, textiles and other materials. Toys made of sea shells
are quite common at these places. Decorative items made of wood and bamboo
are also good bargains here.
Pudukkotai
Handicrafts such as Handloom Silk papiermache, Cane-made articles, Korai
mats, etc. are available.
Tiruvelneli
