On 1 January 2002, ten villes at the Saint-Laurent southern riverbank were constitute the grande ville de LÚvis (124,487 inhabitants). These ten villes are LÚvis, Pintendre, Saint-Joseph-de-la-Pointe-de-LÚvy, Saint-Romuald, Saint-Jean-Chrysostome, Charny, Saint-Nicolas, Saint-RÚdempteur, Saint-╔tienne-de-Lauzon, and Breakeyville. The municipal council of the new ville was selected from an election held on 4 November 2001.
