The first report of the community of Vrovany is from the year 1131
in a document of the Olomouc archbishop Zdek. The name Vrovany takes
its origins from some kinds of vortices, probably whirlpools. Mineral water
springs are indeed abundant in Vrovany, in fact baths were also formed,
of which the first mention dates from the year 1502. Today's community
is composed of three parts: Vrovany, Rakodavy and Nenakonice. We have
a total of 1362 inhabitants. An eminent personage worth mentioning is the
writer Otokar Bystina (*23.5.1861), real name Ferdinand Dostl, whose
most famous work was the
Hancl legenda (The Legend of Han) (1904).
