Throughout years, the village, including the nearby Viktejn castle and surroundings, was in possession of different owners. People were mostly farmers and craftsmen (in particular, weaving). This gave a basis for industrial works. Slate was mined and processed in the surroundings of Vtkov. After World War II, German population was dislocated.
