Description

In a red field at the hoist the wheel from the arms, after that red-white-red. The length has to be at least twice the width, the red field at the hoist occupies one third of the length. The flag is also specified in the statutes of the city, available at the city website (see paragraph 1 and the appendix starting at page 17 with exact colour specifications):

Hauptsatzung vom 05. Dezember 1994 (...)
§ 1 (...)
The flag also exists in the form of a banner. The wheel is the wheel of Mainz — Erfurt and its surroundings were a remote possession of the Archdiocese of Mainz for a long time. Source: Ulle 1999. [Erfurt is the capital city of Thuringia.]

The wheel is in a correct position only if two spokes are vertical, both in the horizontal and hanging flag versions. Ralf Stelter also points out that the flag of Erfurt is specified in the statutes of the city but not actually used — is there a special reason for this?
