The former municipality of De Wijk in Drenthe, the Netherlands, has been
absorbed into the municipality of De Wolden (for which no flag is available as
yet). Sierksma (Nederlands vlaggenboek, 1962) has a horizontal RY flag, which
was not official, but used by the local commercial association. Those colors
were derived from the municipal CoA. Sierksma (De gemeentewapens van Nederland,
1968) states about the CoA: 'The 19 coins ('penningen') are derived from the
family CoA of van der Clooster. The head is derived from the shield of the
family De Vos van Steenwijk.'
BTW the letter 'ij' in 'De Wijk' is a typical Dutch letter, for which it is
difficult to find a foreign equivalent. (something like 'ei' in French
'seigneur')

Ruinerwold is since 1-1-1998 part of the municipality of De Wolden (Drenthe,
the Netherlands).
The flag is derived from the municipal Coat of Arms. The lozenge and the 12
coins refer to the judicial college 'Heer en Twaalven' (Lord and Twelves),
president and assessors from the 15th to the 17th centuries. The rozets are
derived from the Lords of Ruinen.

Zuidwolde [voormalige gemeente]
Shipmate Flagchart : http://www.shipmate.nl/flags.htm
Zuidwolde is since 1-1-1998 part of the municipality of De Wolden (Drenthe,
the Netherlands)
The flag symbolizes the old name of this municipality: 'Kerkenbosch' (Churchwood
(Scottish Kirkwood)) - the scandinavian cross for the church and the oakleaf for
the wood. The eagle is derived from the arms of the family van Echten,
responsible for the peat-exploition in this region.
