Municipal flag

Tynaarlo is the Northernmost municipality in Drenthe, adjacent to the city of Groningen (Grins in Frisian). The present municipality of Tynaarlo (formerly called Zuidlaren) consists of the former municipalities of Zuidlaren, Eelde and Vries, with c. 30.000 inhabitants. Zuidlaren used to have an important horse-market (great Belgian horses!), and Eelde has the only civil airport in North Netherlands.

This flag is described by Kl. Sierksma (Nederlands Vlaggenboek, 1962): This flag was adopted 6 May 1958 by the municipal council. The colors have been derived from the municipal arms, as well as the galopping horse, which reminds of the famous Zuidlaarder horse-market.
