Castricum, Akersloot and Limmen will be merging on the 1st January 2002.

4991 inhabitants, 2529 hectares, c. 10 km south of Alkmaar. "Aker" = acorn, hence the canting flag at <nl-nh-as.html>, and "sloot" = ditch; this municipality has always been in a wet environment, and still
is, its heart being the Alkmaardermeer (lake). It was partly destroyed by Spanish soldiers in October 1573.

The flag was adopted 2 Feb 1960, a BoA. The CoA  was already used for "wimpelen" (banners) in 1658.
