Presentation of the municipality

The municipality of Benedikt was formed in 1998 by secession from Lenart in 1998. The full name of the place, that is shown on the seat of the community is Benedikt v Slovenskih goricah (Benedikt in the Slovenian Hills) but the municipality is simply named Benedikt.

Description of the flag

The flag and arms are prescribed by decision Odlok o grbu in zastavi Obcine Benedikt, adopted on 29 March 2000, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, nr. 36/2000.
The statut of the local municipality (krajevna skupnost, subdivision of a municipality) Benedikt while still part of Lenart already mentioned a coat of arms and flag but did not define them any further.

The flag is rectangular in ratio 1:2 "as a rule", horizontally divided white-green-white with a yellow fimbriation. Article 3 of the abovementioned decision says: "In the middle of the flag, if it is hung vertically, is the coat of arms." This would mean that the horizontal flag does no bear the arms, while the vertical version must bear them.

Coat of arms

[Coat of arms of Benedikt]by Zeljko Heimer

The coat of arms is a shield in ratio 20:21, vertically divided in white and green fields of relative widths of 2:3, separated by a golden stripe 1/20 of the whole width. In the green field there is white Gothic letter B, and in the white field three golden haloed crowns. The coat of arms is bordered with gold.

The letter B is the initial of Benedikte. The three crowns stand for the parish of the Three Wise Men (Three Holy Kings, as called in Slovenian) that was the core around which the municipality developed.

Vertical flag

The coat of arms is set so that the yellow stripe matches the yellow fimbriation of the field. The fimbriation is prescribed as 1/40 of the hoist. The decision prescribes that then the ratio of the width of the coat of arms to the width of the flag is 10:23.
