Hat Yai City Guide

Thailand > Hat Yai
Hat Yai is Songkhla province's principal town, where major commercial, communications, entertainment and shopping center is located, also offers excellent transportation and accommodation, for travelers. Hat Yai owes much of its charm and attraction to its vibrant, nightlife.

Among the attractions is the city's most famous Nam Tok Ton Nga Chang (Elephant Tusk) Waterfall which cascades down a steep cliff, rumbling and rustling from its towering majesty, perched 30 km away from the heart of the city.

Don't miss your visit to one of the most revered statues in the region, the third largest reclining Buddha image of the world reposes at Wat Hat Yai Nai on Phetkhasem Road near Ou-Tapao Bridge. The statue, named Phra Buddha hatmongkhol, is 35 meters long, 15 meters high and 10 meters wide. Amazing!

Best known as a shopping city, shopping is actually a highlight here. Hat Yai offers many good buys in Thai handicrafts - especially local cotton products, leisure and sportswear. Also a large variety of preserved Thai fruits, dried seafood and other culinary delicacies that's worth buying here.

Getting There and Moving Around

By air

Hat Yai International (HDY) has recently been opened, so far it is only used for flights to Asian destinations and domestic flights. The nearest town is Songkhla (approximately 20km/12.5 miles away).

By rail

Train services are available here, through trains operate to Kuala Lumpur, with daily connections to Singapore and to the borders with Cambodia (at Aranyaprathet) and Laos (at Nong Khai).

By road

There are long distance bus services and city buses around the city. Also, the tuk tuk is another good type of road transportation to move around the city, it functions as a taxi as well.

If you prefer to drive on your own moving around the city, there will also be car rental services offer to you for your convenience.

Moving Around

Getting there is pretty easy if a tour guide guides you, around the interesting places. Either than that air, road, and train transport is accessible through out the area.
