Lampang city, located in Northwestern Thailand. The city
is in a forested area and is an important center of the
timber industry. The surrounding region, partly irrigated,
also grows rice, coffee, sugarcane, and tobacco. Lampang
claims to two unique features: the sole Thai town which
still uses colourful horse drawn carriages as a means of
everyday urban transport, and the world's only training
school for baby elephants.
The attractions around the city includes the Wat Phra Kaeo
Don Tao, which is an old building which consists of an impressive
chedi on a rectangular base with a round spire topped with
gilded bronze plaques, Wat Chedi Sao, The Elephant Conservation
Center, and others. Regular buses, train and other means
of public transport serves as a way of getting around the
city.
