Phi Phi Island Guide
Thailand > Phi Phi Island
Follow Thailand's long leg of land stretching down to Malaysia
and you'll find Phi Phi Island to the west of the "knee"
in the Andaman Sea. Technically, Phi Phi is two islands:
Ko Phi Phi Don, and Ko Phi Phi Leh, Ko Phi Phi Don. If you
are looking for a beach where you can play Gilligan's Island,
this is it.
The glorious South of Thailand offers endless exquisite
beaches of golden sand, clear blue seas with colorful fish,
coral reefs, and tropical islands. This is a region of spectacular
scenery and totally relaxing lifestyle.
Ko Phi Phi has now turned into a favorite spot for diving
lovers from all over the world. The coral reefs in the clear
waters ensure a spectacular sighting and the colorful fishes
swimming in their natural habitat is a sight to behold.
Snorkelling around the archipelago's coral reefs or climbing
to one of the many karst limestone lookouts is an unforgettable
experience.
But the best thing about the island would be the snorkeling
facilities where one is greeted by some of the most wondrous
coral reefs. You may bring along some bananas with you when
snorkeling as tropical fish love bananas and make great
photograph subjects when fed underwater.
Besides beach activities, you can also visit the Mu Ko
Phi Phi National Park (Phi Phi island)located in the area
of Tambon Nong Thale, Tambon Saithai, Tambon Ao Nang and
Tambon Pak Nam. You will surely be inspired by the beauty
of the nature here.
Getting There and Moving Around
By air
Phuket for Asian and European routes, and Penang, Malaysia,
for direct flights from North America. It is common for
travelers to fly into Bangkok and combine a stay on Ko Phi
Phi with a visit to other destinations in Thailand.
By sea
When you reach Krabi by buses, you can take a boat to Ko
Phi Phi from Krabi. The last boat departs Krabi at 4 p.m.
(others leave at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.).
By road
The most straightforward route from Penang to Ko Phi Phi
is to take the frequent bus to Hat Yai, Thailand (5 hours,
avoid the train on this route as it takes significantly
longer to clear customs), then another bus to Krabi (also
5 hours).
Moving Around
The best way to reach Phi Phi Island is by boat as it is
an island away from land. Despite that, it does not make
a downfall of visitors coming here as it is a fascinating
place to be.
