Hoan Kiem Lake, also called "Lake of the Returned Sword",
is located in the center of Hanoi. The name was derived
from a legend in which King Le Thai To, saw a giant turtle
coming towards him during a boat cruise on the lake. The
turtle took his sword that had freed Vietnam in battles
against the Minh aggressors. King Le Thai To named the lake
after this incident. Ngoc Son Temple was built on the small
island in the middle of this lake.
