King Tu Duc died in 1883 after 35 years on the throne,
the longest reign of all in the Nguyen Dynasty. This tomb
is one of the most romantic and splendid masterpieces of
that time. The king was an expert in eastern philosophy,
history, and literature and thus, ordered that the tomb
be built like a fairyland with poetical features and used
it as a working and relaxation place when he was alive.
