THE TROPICAL
RAINFOREST: The Daintree rainforest in Australia situated
on the east cost of North
Queensland is the largest attraction. It is around 900,000 hectors
in area and is in worlds heritage list. Daintree is belived to be the
oldest (110 million years old) living rainforest in the world.
There are surving species of the earliest flowering trees which appeared
over 100 million years old, when the dinosaurs ruled the land. It is also
the second largest virgin tract of rainforest after Amazon
Rainforest in South America. The Tropical
Rainforest are the lungs of our planet Earth. They are dense, wet forest,
found in high rainfall regions. More than half of all the earth's species
of the plants and animals live inside tropical rainforest. Each level
of the forest from top to bottom supports its own flora and funa and together
they contribute to the forest. In the Daintree there are enormous range
of plants and animals which are found only here like the tree Kangaroos,
Flying Foxes, Cassowaries, Dragon Lizards, Salt water crocodiles, Tree
frogs, Giant Birdwing Butterflie and countless species of trees, Ferns
and Fungi.
THE BLUE MOUTAIN:The Blue Mountains - named as such because
of the blue haze created by the
eucalyptus oil in the air above the mountain gum forests - formed over
several million years ago and has remained largely untamed. The blue moutain
are in the west if Sydney and they are 65 miles long. The edges of Blue
Mountains National Park, blue ridges fade into the distance broken by
weathered cliffs and waterfalls that plunge down into wide forested areas
or narrow ravines. Four very distinct seasons bring an array of changing
colours set against blue skies, crisp mountain air and mountain mists
rising from the valley. Ancient rock formations such as the
Three Sisters, The Ruined Castle and Pulpit Rock await inspection with
the Jenolan Caves, a spectacular conservation reserve abounding
in wildlife and rugged limestone scenery.
