was debate about where the new nations capital will be. After a long scerch
for sites whether it would be Melbourne or Sydney. Canberra emerged
as new capital of Australia,Cannberra is an aboriginal word which
means " Meeting Place".
Australia today is proud of all the sacrifies and struggle they had to
face for democracy. Australian soldiers were send for various peace
keeping missions., they participated in many UN peace-keeping efforts
like helping to restore order to the war torn korea, combodia, Vietnam,
etc. Australia faced Great Depression in 1929 till 1930but Australian
economy recovered after the World War IIas the factories increased production
for military war efforts.
The turning point in Australian history was the discovery of Gold.
The bush town of Australia sprang up during golden era. This led to development
of new settlements. Being a young nation all the experiencehelped them
to form a unique Australia that stands high up with self esteem today.
Australia has a parliamentary democracy. The country has its own
State and Local government.It has 2 houses of parliament , the house of
re presentatives
and senate at federal level. The head of the government is Prime Minister,
who is leader of the party who holds majority of seats in the house of
representatives. The head of the state is Queen Elizabeth II, an appointed
governer general represents the queen and plays a ceremonial role in the
government.
Agriculture play a important role in australian economy. It is world largest
wool producer.It is largest supplier of Meat, Dairy products, cereal,
Fruit, Vegetables and Sugar.
