In this plain and rich region took place the largerst part of the
“Reconquer” crusade after Portugal become independent. Dead moor are
very often in local coats of arms — in Algarve,
the southernmost region, coats of arms tend to bear upright and living
heads of moor and christian kings — much
more pollitically correct... Considering that Alentejo is traditionally
a not very religious, communist oriented region, it is very strange why
this kind of intolerant and nationalist coats of arms were not changed
at all...
