Rodrigues, a volcanic island, is part
of Mauritius, 400 miles and a 1 1/2-hour flight away
from the main island in a remote corner of the Indian
Ocean. Surrounded by coral reefs, covered with similar
vegetation and landscapes, it is blessed with an equally
tropical climate. The simple croft-farming community,
noted for its old-time dances, is the main interest.
The pace of life is more relaxed.
