Lying in the shadow of the Riviθre Mountains,
Tamarin has a fine lagoon which is split in two by the Riviθre
Noire estuary. This place is best known for its ancient
salt pans where sea water is left to evaporate in the blazing
sun until only a film of marine salt remains to be collected.
The bay of Tamarin is a favorite spot with surfers as it
has a long beach, unusual in Mauritius for its reddish sand.
