The citadel, located almost in the heart of Macau, was
built by the Jesuits as part of the St. Paul's church project
and also to serve as a defence from possible attacks. With
the fire of a cannon ball, it managed to defend Macau from
the attack of the Dutch when they tried to invade Macau
in 1622.
It is now a public park and also houses the Museum of Macau
with displays of the history of Macau and its relationship
with China.
