Sao Domingos (St. Dominic's) Church

Sao Domingos (St. Dominic's) Church in Macau

Perhaps the most beautiful church in Macau, Sao Domingos was built by Dominican friars in the 17th century. The baroque style church's altar mimics the shape of the facade, with cream-colored walls and white stucco mouldings with green shutters. The altar rises in a series of tiers to a niche containing a statue of the Blessed Virgin and Child. There is also the image of Our Lady of Fatima in this church and it is from this church on 13 May, that the great Fatima procession begins.
St. Dominic have been clouded by its violently dramatic past which have seen a military officer murdered at the altar during Mass, and also other incidents.
There is a museum at the rear of the church containing a number of notable early church sculptures and relics of St. Paul's and other churches which have been either demolished or rebuilt.
Opening hours : 10.00am - 6.00pm daily.
Admission free - to enter the church, visitors should ring the bell on the green gate at the side door.
