As the name suggest's, it was once a place where iron was
once mined, first by the Japanese and later by the Americans.
Not many people are aware that Bukit Besi was once the biggest
open cast iron ore mines in the world, a town which never
slept, with streets illuminated by bright tungsten lights
at night.
The mining operation in Bukit Besi is responsible for the
growth of Dungun town. Bukit Besi holds many stories, some
of them may only be intersting to researches, but some told
the horrors and pain of the workers experienced during Japanese
occupation.
