Covering an area of 544sq km, Gunung Mulu is famous for
its limestone caves. It is also renowned as the world's
largest natural cave chamber, cave passage and also the
longest cave in South East Asia. The mountain is the crown
jewel of Sarawak's national park network. It is by far the
largest national park, covering an area of 544 sq. km of
primary rainforest, which is criss-crossed by clear rivers
and jungle streams. The park is dominated by three mountains,
Gunung Mulu, Gunung Api and Gunung Benarat. Many of Mulu's
greatest attractions lie deep below the surface. Hidden
underneath the forested slopes of these mountains is one
of the largest limestone cave systems in the world. Besides
the cave experience, the park also contains thousands of
wild rare plants, insects, animals and also incredible rock
formations.
The most commonly way to get to Mount Mulu National Park
is through Miri. Visitors from outside Sarawak can come
from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore by air via Kuching to Miri
or from Hong Kong or Manila via Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to
Miri.
