Situated 13 km from the center of Kuala Lumpur, the National
Zoo is a very popular attraction. It has a large ground,
with facilities suitable for picnics, and approximately
400 species of Malaysian and exotic mammals, birds and reptiles.
A reptile house and a large Primate display. There are
a number of educational displays and animal train rides.
The National Zoo and Aquarium spans 62 hectares of shady
forest land encompassing several ponds and small streams,
at Ulu Kelang on the outskirts of the city. Built to resemble
as closely as possible the natural habitat of the various
animals and birds, the zoo is home to about 1,000 species
of flora and fauna from Malaysia and other parts of the
world.
The Aquarium houses some 82 species of marine life. For
children, there is the added attraction of exciting elephant,
camel and donkey-cart rides, boat rides and the Zoo train.
There are also special show time featuring elephants, parrots,
orang utan and sea lions.
