Situated 28 km north of Dungun and 56 km south of Kuala
Terengganu, is Rantau Abang, or known as the Turtle Sanctuary.
The place is one of the 6 beaches in the world where the
giant Leatherback turtles come to nest each year between
May and September. Watch these creatures come ashore to
lay their eggs on these desolate beaches. This is one of
the most famous tourist overnight-stop spot where tourists
come to watch the female turtles lay their eggs at night.
These giant turtles, weight up to 2.5m in length and sometimes
more than 375kg. Is one of only 6 places in the world visited
by these turtles, from the months of May to September.
