Shah Alam, the capital of Selangor, is among one of the
13 states located in the Federation of Malaysia. Located
halfway between Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, and
Port Klang, Malaysia's main port. An industrial township,
Shah Alam is home to more than 400,000 people. Being the
capital of Selangor, Shah Alam is famous for a number of
fine architectural building, among them is the Sultan Salahuddin
Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, the largest in Malaysia and one
of the most beautiful mosque located in South East Asia.
Frequently referred to as "The Blue Mosque", its minarets
are measured at 142.3 meters. Its graceful blue dome in
one of the largest of its kind. Decorative Islamic calligraphy
enhances the dome and the main prayer-hall, while the overall
architecture integrates ethnic Malay design elements. The
mosque casting over $160 million is built on a site of approximately
36 acres of land situated to the north of Shah Alam town
center, the capital of the state of Selangor Darul Ehsan.
The design of the mosque reflects a blend of traditional
Islamic Mosque architecture and local Malay architecture.
Antique Turkish tiles, white marble walls, geometric patterns,
and four large chandeliers, decorated with traditional Quranic
verses are among those that adorns the mosque.
