Tucked away in a secluded corner of the University of Malaysia's
campus in Lembah Pantai is the University of Malaysia's
Botanic Gardens, also known as "Rimba Ilmu" (literally,
Forest of Knowledge). It encompasses 40 hectares, sprawled
over undulating terrain traversed by bubbling streams.
The garden, set up by the University's Department f Botany
for purposes of research, education and conservation, houses
more than 1,500 species of plants native to Malaysia. The
impressive collection includes wild fruit trees, ginger,
orchids, citrus trees, pandanus and other medicinal plants.
Opening hours: Mondays - Fridays: 8.45am - 3.30pm; Saturdays:
8.45am - 11.30pm; Closed on Sundays & Public Holidays.
