The ancient and the cutting edge come into dramatic synergy
at the first wing of the Asian Civilisations Museum. The
restored building's classical facade belies the modern technologies
within, where exciting multimedia programmes shed light
on our extensive collection of priceless artifacts, helping
visitors connect the past to the present.
Two thirds of our galleries here are devoted to the rich
Chinese cultural heritage, introducing visitors to the world
of Chinese beliefs, symbolism, connoisseurs and the scholar
tradition. On rotation are fascinating temporary exhibitions
that explore civilisations closer to home, as well as futher
afield.
The story of Asian civilisation and culture will be even
more complete when our second wing opens at the Empress
Place building in the year 2001.
