Welcome to the "City of Lion", a city of concrete, renowned
for its hi-tech wizardry and business and pleasure hub,
with an international ambience. Located at the utmost southern
tip of Peninsula Malaysia, Singapore is also known as a
vibrant, sophisticated, multi-ethnic, city- state that offers
historic charms blended in the new world vision.
Although Singapore is now a modern home, the heritage still
seen at large. Colorful culture and heritage can be seen
through the Chinatown, Little India town and Arab Street.
The city also celebrates numerous festivals and events,
including the Dragon Boat Festival, Festival of the Hungry
Ghosts and Thaipusam.
The city is also known for its reputation as the shopping
paradise. In the heart of the cosmopolitan city, indulge
in Singapore's favorite pastime-- shopping. Shop and stroll
along the in- vogue Orchard Road, a shopping hub of malls,
cafes and restaurants. Otherwise, Marina, East Coast, the
Bugis village, Chinatown Complex and Centerpoint are another
shopping destinations.
Besides shopping, Singapore offers a splendor of mother
nature attractions. It is decorated by the lush gardens
and tropical parklands. Some of the places worth- visiting
is the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Mandai Orchid Gardens
and Chinese and Japanese Gardens.
Singapore is also a kingdom of animals, with its myriad
of animal parks and zoo centers. Among the top places of
attractions are the riverside Boat Quay and Clark Quay,
Singapore Zoological Gardens- an open concept zoo, the world-
class Night Safari, Jurung BirdPark and Underwater World.
In addition, the interactive, entertaining and educational
theme parks reside in the heart of Singapore. Some of the
many parks are VolcanoLand and the Singapore Discovery Center.
When it comes to food, Singapore is just the right place
to be. It has one of the best dining places in the world,
a complement to its multi- culture society.
Getting There and Moving Around
By air
Singapore's national airline, Singapore Airlines (SQ),
services direct flight to worldwide destinations daily.
The Changi Airport is accessible via the highway. Travelers
from Malaysia, can also take a flight to and from Singapore
via Johor Bahru Causeway.
By sea
Singapore can be accessed by sea with cruises and ferry
services. Some cruises service parts of South East Asia.
The Singapore Cruise Center is located at the World Trade
Center, 10 minutes from the city center.
By rail
To travel in and out of Singapore by rail is easy. The
train services connects through Johor Bahru via the KTM-
a Malaysian train service, to some parts of Malaysia and
even to Bangkok (Thailand).
By road
Singapore's bus network is extremely frequent and comprehensive.
It connects Singapore to other states in Malaysia, via the
Johor Bahru- Singapore Causeway.
Moving Around
In the city, travel around is convenient with The Mass
Rapid Transit(MRT). It is a modern, comfortable, efficient
and economic way to explore Singapore. Operation hours are
0600-0000 and the train timetables are posted at each station.
Another is by bus, the TransitLink. Most buses operate between
6 a.m to midnight. For convenience, a TransitLink Card,
a stored value card can be used for both the MRT and bus.
