Pewter, treasured for centuries for its graceful lustre
and brilliant finish, for its exquisite craftmanship and
elegant designs and most of all for its enduring beauty.
This alloy is one of the most precious in the world and
an important part of Singapore's heritage.
Now you can trace the craft of the pewtersmith at probably
the world's first Pewter Museum, right here in Singapore.
Located in Ming Village at Pandan Road, the Pewter Museum
houses antique pieces ranging from domestic utensils to
elaborately crafted ceremonial pieces. Tools that have hardly
changed for more than a century are displayed in good working
order. And there's a daily demonstration of traditional
pewter processes.
Evidence if the contemporary pewtersmith's art is also found
in a showroom displaying over 1,000 beautifully crafted
pieces. Each is a tribute to more than a century of fine
craftmanship from Asia's leading pewtersmiths, Royal Selangor,
and a fine impression of Singapore's heritage to take home
with you.
The Pewter Museum and showroom is open daily from 9.00am
- 5.30pm and admission is free.
