Located in the old city center on the west side, the Lungshan
Temple is one of the best example of typical Chinese architecture.
It is the oldest and most frequently visited temple in Taipei.
The many gods, goddesses, local deities, and Buddha statues
enshrined here side-by-side exemplify the tolerance of Chinese
folk beliefs. People come here to seek help from the Buddhist
Goddess of Mercy (Kuan Yin) and the Taoist saints - Goddess
of the Sea (Matsu) as well as the God of War (Kuan Kung).
The original Lungshan Temple was built in 1740, but the
temple people visit today was rebuilt in 1957 as the old
building was severely damaged by wars and natural disasters.
