The National Palace Museum, located at Waishuangshi in
suburban Taipei, houses the world's largest assemblage of
priceless Chinese treasures. The architecture resembles
imperial palaces of the Ching dynasty, and the collection
of more than 620,000 art objects is no less refined than
any imperial collection. The collection is far too large
to be displayed completely at one time. Only famous items
are on permanent display, while most of the jade, porcelain,
painting and bronze collections are rotated regularly. On
a guided tour around the museum, one may see the best items
of the imperial collection and at the same time have a general
idea of China's nearly 5,000 years of history.
