Napier, known as a rebuilt city in North Island after the invigorating earthquake along the Pacific shores of Hawke's Bay. Situated as the capital of the Hawkes Bay region, Napier is renowned for a beautiful coastline, stately Norfolk pines, and Napier is now known as the Art Deco city with 1930's art deco architecture.
That elegant building design style is celebrated in a festival each February, but it's not the only reason Napier and the Hawke's Bay area gets its attention.

Some of these attractions would be the mountainous east coast adjoins silvery lakes, rugged beaches and still bays. Tiny historic towns dot the coast and the lush national parks provide solace and excitement for lovers of the wilderness. Don't miss the fun at Cape Kidnappers' Gannet Reserve, the cape is one of only two known permanent mainland nesting sites for the birds in the entire southern hemisphere, it is another major attraction, and contains the largest, most accessible mainland colony in the world. Tours regularly operate to take visitors to the sanctuary.

Another major highlight of the city is Marine Parade, you will surely be fascinated by its spectrum of wonderful features, ranging from coloured lights of environment the old-world flavour which is enhanced by the legacy of the poet who named the streets after literary greats including Shakespeare, Tennyson, Browning, Emerson and Dickens.

View the hallmark of New Zealand - kiwi birds, visit the Napier Kiwi House which is very special to New Zealand. Originally, the Kiwi gets its name from the shrill whistle of the male bird. This stocky Kiwi, a nocturnal brown bird is around the size of a chicken and it cannot fly. Let's fulfil your sense of curiosity towards Kiwi there.

Getting There and Moving Around

By rail

Tranz Rail Ltd operates a reliable rail service on 4000km of railway with many routes of great scenic attraction. It is with good views of forests, gorges Trans Scenic and volcanic peaks.

By road

There are regional bus networks which serve most parts of the country. Good local bus services are provided in the main towns.

Also, there are metered taxis operating throughout the country. Car hire sevices is also provided from major international firms and local firms where they have offices at airports and most major cities and towns.
